Speech and language assessments are performed to gain insight regarding your child's speech and language skills within the context of his/her total development. For children under 3 years of age, assessments include in-depth questionnaires (birth, medical and development history), observation (including direct play), and parental report/input. Assessments for children 3-5 years of age may include: in-depth questionnaires, standardized norm-referenced tests, observational scales, teacher/daycare input, medical and developmental history are used to gather information about your child's communication skills. The areas of assessment may include:
receptive language, expressive language, social pragmatic language skills, vocabulary, narrative skills (oral), motor speech skills, articulation, feeding skills, and play skills.
Individual therapy programs are developed for each child. Therapy integrates child's strengths and preferences to keep them motivated and allow success throughout the process. Using naturalistic, play-based strategies, we help children understand language and improve their functional commuication skills. We strongly believe parental involvement is essential for a child's communication success. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to observe and participate in therapy sessions. Toddler age play groups are also available.
